I needed to break the hiatus that was rapidly building in my reading.
I was struggling to complete a book! I mean, just one book!
I tried reading several books but stopped after the first few chapters for most of them; I could tell I was struggling. After weeks of hoping and waiting for this phase to end with me falling right back in love with my books, I decided to try something different.
I settled for something that checked all the boxes on the list below .
Read something light – no pressure.
Read something you like/love
Read for 15 mins daily.
Read something light – no pressure: This was to break the ice. My default books are non-fiction books on business, entrepreneurship, self-development and emotional intelligence as they almost always leave me with things I could adopt right away. This time, I decided to try something else… I decided to read a novel. The books that endeared me to reading when I was a kid. The kind of books that leave you light, smiling to yourself and/or reading for hours without feeling like it’s some sort of work.
Read something you like/love: I like a lot of my non-fiction books as this site will show you, but right now, I needed to check out other genres that I loved and which also checked the first box – Something light – no pressure. I remember reading so many novels as a child and teenager, and I’ve had a couple of them on my shelf which I bought but didn’t read (they don’t solve as much problems as the non-fictions do; and I didn’t have all the time in the world – my thoughts).
Read for 15 mins daily: I mentioned this in my post about ‘How to read more’. This didn’t work alone this time as I started reading different books but couldn’t sustain the momentum enough to finish any particular book, which is why checking all 3 boxes was essential.
PS: I read my novel in 2 days.
I have finally completed a book and broken my streak. smiles
Sidney Sheldon’s “Are You afraid of the dark” did the trick.
I hope I’m back! And if I’m not, we check those boxes again and again 😊👍🏽
It’s the end of January, the first month in 2017. It’s been an interesting and challenging one especially since I decided to post weekly this year. All I can say, One month down, 11 to go. I expect to be a guru at this at the end of the year.
Thanks to the blog’s followers and readers who support and encourage me to keep at it. I invite you to continue on this journey with me and invite friends to come on as well; it will be worth their time.

In the spirit of new starts, I have introduced some newbies on the blog and thought to keep you updated.
1stly, I am increasing posts to weekly! That’s a minimum of 4 posts a month! Yayyy! I hope you are as excited as I am! #stretchingin2017
2ndly, I’m introducing related and random posts. So many times, the books leave me in such high spirits or gives takeaways, which can’t all go in to the book review. That’s where related posts come in.
Random posts are just the opposite and as they sound – random. This could also be short stories.
3rdly, I am going to put up the names of the two books to be reviewed in each month on the 1st day of each month to get you all on the reading journey so we can read together and also share more views on the same book.
NB: Book reviews will be on the second and last week of each month.
