What does it really mean to be the RICH-ER Woman?

I once pursued money.
I focused on being a successful career woman at the expense of other areas of my life. Now, I realize that all I want is to live a life of purpose. I want to be successful in every single area of my life, and not just in one area. I want to excel at every gift & responsibility God has given me…

Omilola Oshikoya – the RICHER WOMAN – PG 91.

THE RICHER WOMAN (A woman’s guide to true wealth) || OMILOLA OSHIKOYA|| 2017|| 244 PAGES

The book is a Christian read; It has nineteen chapters which are divided into 2 parts; the RICH & the RICHER Woman.

The first part  – the RICH Woman – is a raw and vulnerable story of how the pursuit of money influenced the author’s life; not only in the area of finance but also in seemingly unrelated areas like her relationship with men, marriage, career and her family.

How to get BACK to Reading.

I needed to break the hiatus that was rapidly building in my reading.

I was struggling to complete a book! I mean, just one book!

I tried reading several books but stopped after the first few chapters for most of them; I could tell I was struggling. After weeks of hoping and waiting for this phase to end with me falling right back in love with my books, I decided to try something different.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

I settled for something that checked all the boxes on the list below .

  1. Read something light – no pressure.

  2. Read something you like/love

  3. Read for 15 mins daily.

Read something light – no pressure: This was to break the ice. My default books are non-fiction books on business, entrepreneurship, self-development and emotional intelligence as they almost always leave me with things I could adopt right away. This time, I decided to try something else… I decided to read a novel. The books that endeared me to reading when I was a kid. The kind of books that leave you light, smiling to yourself and/or reading for hours without feeling like it’s some sort of work.

Read something you like/love: I like a lot of my non-fiction books as this site will show you, but right now, I needed to check out other genres that I loved and which also checked the first box – Something light – no pressure. I remember reading so many novels as a child and teenager, and I’ve had a couple of them on my shelf which I bought but didn’t read (they don’t solve as much problems as the non-fictions do; and I didn’t have all the time in the world – my thoughts).

Read for 15 mins daily: I mentioned this in my post about ‘How to read more’. This didn’t work alone this time as I started reading different books but couldn’t sustain the momentum enough to finish any particular book, which is why checking all 3 boxes was essential.

PS: I read my novel in 2 days.

I have finally completed a book and broken my streak. smiles

Sidney Sheldon’s “Are You afraid of the dark” did the trick.

I hope I’m back! And if I’m not, we check those boxes again and again 😊👍🏽

Get back to reading guys.

Cheers!

Wealth in a wheelchair?

I remember when I first saw this picture with the old couple so exhausted, they couldn’t make it through their tour of Venice. My initial thoughts were, Oh, I am not waiting for retirement to travel the world, I’m seeing it right away! but after reading this book, I knew I also wanted to do a lot more things with money WHILE I’ve still got the energy!

What is the point of being wealthy at 70 when you may be on a wheel chair and without enough energy to enjoy your wealth?

THINK AND GROW RICH

It is no ordinary desire that survives disappointment, discouragement, temporary defeat, criticism and the constant accusation of being a ‘waste of time’. It is a burning desire, an obsession!

It’s funny how things seem tougher when you take a decision about something or decide to make a change. You decide to lose weight by eating healthier meals then you get offers for free meals of small chops, pizzas and ice cream not once or twice and you remember you don’t even have to pay! You decide to help a friend and you find out that helping out can also be really inconvenient. It’s funny how there’s always a hurdle to cross when you make a decision or take a stand.

This book will teach you how to close the gap between ideas and achievements, good intentions and their successful completion. It will guide you on how to keep your enthusiasm while crossing those hurdles that seem positioned just for you.

Meet the man who drives in Lagos, Nigeria and never uses his horn up to 10 times in a year

– Does he exist? Or better still is he chauffeured?

Yes and No. He is for real and he truly does drive himself since he loves driving. So back to the question of his horn usage, 10 times in a year is almost impossible! For those outside Lagos, let me quickly give a brief description of driving in Lagos. Lagos is the 17th busiest city and 3rd worst city to drive in the world with over a million vehicles driving daily on the roads, (African Association of Public Transport, 2010, LAMATA, 2014), notice I said vehicles not just cars. We have tricycles, bikes, transport buses, pick-up vans and articulated vehicles all vying for space on Lagos roads. Not forgetting the bad roads in some areas; if you are not in Lagos, you can only but imagine the congestion.

Everyone is in a hurry, everyone feels super road-smart, everyone feels they own the road and have all the road rights. The roads are never quiet with horns blazing from defensive driving, offensive overtaking, pedestrians crossing the road right under a pedestrian bridge or using the horn as defense from mean truck drivers (this was me as a learner). So how does one drive around and keep the horn usage to less than 10 in a year not in a day??? (Now that’s a serious question).

Luckily for you, I know where you can find this intriguing person and learn more about his personality which by the way has made him a success.

The truest test of a driver is to be able to drive without waking up sleeping passengers – no horns, no sudden braking, no road rage, no thumping into potholes.

Serious about negotiating fair and square? Then read this.

All too often negotiators end up like the proverbial children who quarreled over an orange. After they finally agreed to divide the orange in half, the first child took one half, ate the fruit and threw away the peel, while the other threw away the fruit and used the peel from the second half in baking a cake.

Too many negotiations end up with half an orange for each side instead of the whole fruit for one and the whole peel for the other. Why? Continue reading “Serious about negotiating fair and square? Then read this.”

How to read (more) in 2018

New year, New goals. If reading or improved reading is one of yours, then this is for you. A timeless piece. **I strongly believe this will help, hence the repost**

I have never being a fan of “how-to” books; Like seriously, who writes a book to help you ‘read more’ in almost 200 pages. That’s like pushing your luck. Well Martin Udogie got really lucky with this one, not only was I able to get the cookie out of the book but I did it in hours not days or weeks Tosan A.

How to move from Point A to Point B.

We are always looking for complex answers to our desire to change or achieve better results, maybe because we feel our needs are either complex or we just want to have access to the excuse that it was too complex that was why we could not achieve the desired changes. The latter may be why when we see simple answers, we are upset that the answers undermine our problems. Jack‘s recommended success principles are so simple that we could choose to either ignore them or just get into it right away – Tosan A.
